Larry D. "Bobby" Fanto Jr.'s Obituary
Larry D. "Bobby" Fanto, Jr., 86, of Syracuse, passed away on Thursday at the Francis House. Born in Syracuse, he served with the US Marine Corps. during WWII and the Korean Conflict. Bobby was employed with Marine Midland Bank for 35 years, retiring in 1987. He was Past President and Treasurer of the South Side Businessmen's Association and the first recipient of "Man of the Year" award. Bobby was a charter and life member of the Korean War Veterans Association and life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also a member of the American Legion Valley Post and honorary member of the Vietnam Veterans of America, #103. Bobby was Treasurer of the Korea-Vietnam Memorial, member of the Mayor's Veterans Advisory Committee and member of the Marine Corps. League. He was a member of the Valley Men's Club and a longtime member of the Lincoln-Republican Club. Bobby was Chairman of Finance Committee and an usher at St. James Church, he was also a former usher at St. Peter's Church. He was predeceased by his brother, James Fanto; sisters, Rose Micale, Mary Mento, Louise White, Joanne Fiore and Josephine Lamanna. Bobby is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Joan R. (Russi) Fanto; 2 sons, Larry M. (Maria) Fanto of Rome, NY and Rick D. (Joanne) Fanto of Syracuse; 4 grandchildren, Michael, Alana, Ricky and Bobby Fanto; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday at 9:45 AM in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd., (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY and 11:00 AM in St. James Church. Burial will follow in the Onondaga County Veterans Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 7 PM. Bobby's family wishes to acknowledge Dr. Kenneth Cooper, Dr. Suzanne Lamanna, 4th floor at Community General Hospital, the staff at the Francis House and Dr. Patsy Iannolo for their help and support through his illness. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Francis House, 108 Michaels Ave., Syracuse, NY 13208.
