Laura J. Harrington's Obituary
Laura J. Harrington, 31, of Syracuse, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday at home.
Laura grew up in Utica, New York and is an alumna of Cazenovia College where she graduated with a baccalaureate degree in early childhood program administration earning highest college honors. Her academic accolades included winning the coveted Huntington Family Center Award in Childhood Education. During her senior year at Cazenovia College Laura became guardian to two of her brothers, Michael and Tyler, and her sister, Brianna. She began her early childhood career at Head Start in Syracuse and transitioned to providing child care in the home that she purchased seven years ago. Laura was the consummate child care professional. Each week parents received a calendar of planned events for their child that always included an educational agenda. Holidays were recognized with special activities, including participating in the well-known Halloween parade at the local elementary school. Parents were laudatory about the care their children received. Their sentiments included, Laura was part of our family; We were blessed to have her watching our child; She was a miracle who came into our lives; I can’t imagine anyone else taking care of my baby, and We will never meet anyone like Laura to take care of our kids.
Laura was especially close to her sister, Kate, and they spoke daily on the telephone. She was particularly fond of Kate’s two children, Kaiden and Landon, and was proud when her sister also earned a baccalaureate degree. Other siblings are two brothers, Kurt and Josh.
Laura’s untimely death will certainly leave a void in the lives of many including her family, the families of the children she cared for, former professors at Cazenovia College and friends who cared so deeply about this remarkable young woman.
Funeral Services will be announced at a later date. THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME is handling local arrangements.
