Laureen S. (Anderson) Goettel's Obituary
Laureen S. (Anderson) Goettel, 75, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Francis House during the early morning hours of October 31, 2023. She spent her last days surrounded by family and friends. Laureen was a loyal and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, great aunt and friend who was cherished by all who knew her. Laureen enjoyed spending time with her family, camping, bowling, golfing, and traveling. She especially enjoyed her trips to Arizona and Las Vegas and loved to travel south to visit her grandchildren.
Laureen served her community in various volunteer roles throughout her life, setting an example for us all. She served as a Commissioner for the Cicero Volunteer Fire Department for 15 years and was most recently the department treasurer. She is the Past President of the Cicero Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, the American Legion Post 787 Auxiliary, and the New York State Volunteer Fire Police Association. This past year she was honored with a lifetime achievement award from the American Legion for her many years of service.
Laureen was born and raised in North Syracuse, and is a 1966 alumni of North Syracuse High School. She worked for over 25 years for Kemper Insurance and retired from St. Joseph’s Hospital where she worked as a patient accounting billing representative. She was blessed to form many life-long friendships while working for both organizations.
She is predeceased by her parents, Carl and Evelyn (Schlie) Anderson; her siblings, Fredrick Anderson and Karleen (Anderson) Kruger and her granddaughter, Ashling Lillian O’Brien.
Laureen is survived by her husband of 43 years, Thomas J. Goettel, Sr., her children, Kimberly (Rich) O’Brien, Cynthia (Brian) Phuntek, Christine (Chris) Barber and Kenneth Goettel; 9 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Family and friends may call from 8:30 - 10:30 AM on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd (corner of Buckley Rd), North Syracuse, NY, followed by a funeral service in celebration of Laureen’s life at 10:30 AM with burial in North Syracuse Cemetery.
