Lawrence L. "Larry" Epolito's Obituary
Lawrence L. (Larry) Epolito, 94, passed away Monday, December 26, at home. Larry was a life resident of Syracuse, attended Vocational High School and became an accomplished finish carpenter, working nearly 40 years with Epolito Construction Company. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and then served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II. A member of St. Daniels Parish for over 60 years, Larry was also an active member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, the Italian American Athletic Club, St. John’s Senior Center and the Italian American Heritage Association.
Larry loved his work as a carpenter and took great pride in it. He enjoyed traveling with his family and returning to his beloved city, Syracuse. His favorite pastimes were working on crossword puzzles and word searches. He loved to dance and met his wife, Rose, at a dance over 70 years ago. Larry and Rose celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on September 4, 2011.
He was predeceased by his parents, Rocco and Mary Epolito; brother, Joseph Epolito; sisters, Angeline Scarfino, Rose Tucci, Peggy Rose and Adeline Liquori. Larry is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Rose A. (Cosentino) Epolito, and their six children, all of the Syracuse area; daughters, Roseann Epolito, Marleen (Michael) Bilbo, Donna (Richard) Neal, Mary Jo (Jerome) Alaimo; sons, Lawrence “Duke” Epolito (Peggy Conwell) and Thomas (Kim) Epolito; daughter-in-law, Joan Epolito; 16 grandchildren, Paul, Laurie and Neal DiBello, Duke, Daniel and Amy Epolito, Beth Burnam, Maureen Bilbo Melville, Michael Bilbo, Richard, Andrew and Thomas Neal, Thomas and Richard Epolito, and Peter and Thomas Alaimo; 10 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Thomas, William and James Epolito and sister, Agnes Barry. He will be remembered as a loving husband, a wonderful father and a kind and gentle man, "Happy New Year".
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday at 8:00 am in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME and 9:00 am in St. Daniel's Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.
