Leonora (Azzoto) Sabatino's Obituary
Leonora Sabatino (Azzoto) passed away peacefully at the age of 104 with her son by her side on October 17, 2018 at Forest View at Fayette assisted living home.
Leonora was born in Syracuse, NY, daughter of the late Carlo and Clementina Azzoto. She worked at Julius Resnick Inc. handbag factory for 25+ years. Leonora lived a life of love for all her family and friends. She was particularly proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The stories she told of the struggles in her early years living through the great depression were shared with a positive sense of humor. She knew how to communicate with skill, caring, and wisdom of life experiences. Leonora always saw the good in people and endeared herself to others. She was proud of her Italian American heritage and traditions and handed many of them down to her family. Leonora was an outstanding cook and baker, which were the highlights of all family gatherings. She loved interacting with others at parties, weddings, and family gatherings. Leonora was a devout Roman Catholic; this faith gave her strength and support during difficult times.
Leonora is preceded in death by her husband, Leopold; her sisters, Viola, Gilda, and Rafanella, and brothers, Anthony, William, Orlando, and Victor Azzoto.
Leonora is survived by her son, Dominick O. Sabatino (Joanne); her grandsons, Dominick (Colleen), Mark (Mary Beth) and David (Jennifer); six great-grandchildren, Nick, Noah, Elizabeth, Thomas, Michael and Mary; her step-brother, Albert Mercurio; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 am on Monday, October 22, 2018 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a funeral mass in celebration of Leonora’s life at 10:00 am in Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 1:00 – 4:00 pm on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
