Liberty A. "Libby" (Scarola) Scalzo's Obituary
Liberty A. (Scarola) Scalzo, 91, of Liverpool, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, October 17, 2019. She was born in Syracuse, daughter of the late Joseph and Angelina Scarola. Libby was a life resident of Syracuse and worked several dedicated years at General Electric. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church and a member of the St. Therese Society and very active with the Pompeian Players. Libby was a scout leader for both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. She was a dedicated homemaker and helped raise many of the neighborhood children over the years. Libby enjoyed cooking and baking, but above all, she loved spending time with family and friends, especially her beloved grandchildren.
She is predeceased by two sons, Robert and Thomas Scalzo and three sisters, Lena Potenza, Lucy Canale and Rose Giannuzzi. Libby is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Peter F. Scalzo; two sons, Peter F. Scalzo II and Michael J. Scalzo; her daughter, Rosemarie Scalzo; five grandchildren, Nicholas, Michael, Christopher (Lynn), Patrick and Ryan (Katie); five great-grandchildren, Austin (Brooklyn), Kameron, Shea, Nicholas and Vincent; one great-great-grandson, Wyatt; special in-laws, Brenda and Dennis McGinnis; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 am on Monday, October 21, 2019 at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of Libby’s life at 10:00 am in Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church. Burial will follow in Assumption Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 1:00 – 4:00 pm on Sunday, October 20, 2019 at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY. The St. Therese Society will recite their ritual at 12:30 pm on Sunday at the funeral home.
