Lillian (Iannuzzi) Maio's Obituary
Lillian Loretta Maio (Iannuzzi), 89, of Fayetteville, NY passed away on June 16, 2023, on the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
She was born in Eastwood, the youngest of 6 siblings to Anthony and Incoronata (Bottega) Iannuzzi. She was a graduate of North High School and received a degree in Business Administration. Lillian began her career at Lamson & Co. Later, she became the manager of the Polo Ralph Lauren department at Dey Brothers.
Lillian was predeceased by Joseph, her husband of 53 years, in 2014. She met Joe at her sister’s wedding; the two Iannuzzi sisters married the Maio brothers. They began their married life in New Jersey and later moved back to Syracuse, NY where Lillian maintained a strict household and raised their two children, Joseph and Kathy.
Lillian was very close to her sisters and brother Nick and enjoyed family picnics and annual summer trips to Cape Cod. She was devoted to her children, was an exceptional cook (people continually asked her for her recipes). She enjoyed writing poetry for special occasions, loved the ocean, adored dogs and was the most understanding person you could know. In her early years, she was active in recreational golf and bowling leagues. Lillian was also a volunteer at Holy Cross Church and was active in spiritual ministries at Menorah Park.
Lillian was a devout Catholic. A daily communicant of Holy Cross Church, Dewitt and a member of their Rosary Society.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Joseph and siblings, Martha, Nicholas, Mary Jane, Carmelina and Grace.
Lillian is survived by her son, Joseph A. Maio of North Bergen, NJ and daughter, Kathy A. Maio of Fayetteville, NY and beloved dog Kobe, along with many nieces and nephews.
Lillian will be greatly missed by her friends of the Holy Cross Rosary Group, her close friends, and exceptional neighbors.
A funeral Mass in celebration of Lillian’s life will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, June 29, 2023 at Holy Cross Church, Dewitt, with burial to follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Dewitt. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
