Louis F. Iauco's Obituary
Louis F. Iauco, 101, born November 12, 1920 passed away peacefully on Monday, August 22, 2022 at Menorah Park. He was born in Syracuse, son of the late Salvatore and Theresa Iauco. A graduate of Syracuse Central Technical High School, and later Indiana University-Indianapolis, Louis married the love of his life, Roma (Cesarone) Iauco, who predeceased him in 2018.
Louis was a proud WWII veteran, having enlisted in the Army after Pearl Harbor Day, and served from August of 1942 to January of 1946. He trained at New Jersey’s Fort Dix, served as a Sergeant in the European theatre in the 69th infantry, and fought in the Battle of Hurtgen Forest, where he was wounded. Upon returning home and marrying, Louis worked for the next 40 years for RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company, retiring as the Indianapolis Indiana Sales Division Manager, where he lived for 20 years.
Louis’ many volunteer activities included serving as the founding Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council in Cicero, NY as well as many years of volunteer service to the Catholic Church in Indianapolis and in the Syracuse area.
In 2017, he was among the veterans honored by Honor Flight Syracuse, which has transported hundreds of Central New York veterans to Washington, DC to visit their war memorials and to reflect.
Louis Iauco is survived by his five children: Suzanne (John) Cerrone, David (Stephanie), Dianne Iauco Urreiztieta (late Arizeder), Marianne (Mary Blocher), and Mary Lou (Tom Bewley). His 9 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren gave him great joy. His extended family includes many nieces and nephews for whom he was a trusted advisor and patriarch.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 26, 2022 from 9:00 -10:30 am at Epiphany Parish at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 425 Beechwood Ave., Liverpool, NY, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Louis’ life at 11:00 am at the church. He will be laid to rest with Military Honors in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum.
