Louis A. Pennacchia, Sr.'s Obituary
Louis A. Pennacchia, Sr., “Big Lou”, 92, of Liverpool, passed away on June 8, 2021 after a brief illness. He was born in Syracuse, NY on June 14, 1928 to the late August and Elizabeth (Musilli) Pennacchia. Lou graduated from North High School in 1946, married Amelia Gentile in 1949, whom he met when both were members of the choir at Our Lady of Pompei. Lou was employed at Easy Washer, Associated Transport, Stone & Webster Engineering at Nine Mile, retiring in 1986. He was a member of Teamsters Local 317; after retirement, he worked part time at the YMCA in downtown Syracuse at Syracuse Y Athletic Club (SYAC). He coached baseball at Salem Hyde Little League, and Our Lady of Pompei Babe Ruth League. He was the Boys Basketball Coach at Our Lady of Pompei School for many years. Lou was a lifelong parishioner of Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church. He was involved in many parish activities throughout the years including Choir, Eucharistic Minister, Lector, Altar Server, Bereavement Minister, and Holy Name Society. Lou was an avid SU and Yankees fan; he also loved gardening and was a member of the Syracuse Rose Society.
In addition to his parents, Lou was predeceased by his wife, Amelia Pennacchia in 2003 and two sisters, Mary and Rosanna Pennacchia.
Lou is survived by four children, Liz Morgan of Liverpool, Louis A. Pennacchia, Jr. (Maura Ivanick) of N. Syracuse, Terrie (Steven) Jefferson of Valrico, FL., and August (Angela) Pennacchia of Liverpool; 2 sisters, Eleanor Barber of Elbridge and Margaret Taddeo of Syracuse; his companion, Annette DelGiorno, and their dog, Oreo; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Monday, June 14, 2021 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY. A Funeral Mass in celebration of Louis’ life will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wounded Warriors or Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church.
