Lucy Rose (Melfi) Vecchiarelli, 89, of Syracuse, passed away Friday at Upstate University Hospital. She was born in Syracuse, the daughter of the late Vito and Christine (D'Aloia) Melfi. Lucy; a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother cherished spending time with her family. She was a full time homemaker who loved cooking and baking. She and her husband, Nick, enjoyed spending winters at their home in Boynton Beach, Florida. She and Nick also enjoyed the frequent traveling they did with good friends. Lucy was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church.
Lucy was predeceased by her brothers Joe Melfi and Tony Melfi. She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Nicholas Vecchiarelli; her two sons, Jerry (Theresa) Vecchiarelli of Kirkville and Albert (Patricia) Vecchiarelli of Kirkville; two daughters, Roseann (Stephen) Comstock of East Syracuse and Gloria (Joseph) Berardi of Syracuse; eight grandchildren, Jerry A. (Wendy McIlroy) Vecchiarelli, AnnMarie (Jason) Benedict, Nicholas (Jody) Vecchiarelli, Pamela Marie (Brandon) Pelkey, Mark Comstock, Daniel (Kimberly) Comstock, John (Katie) Berardi and Christina (Luigi Vigliotti) Berardi; eleven great-grandchildren, Anthony, Andrew, Alexander, Kevin, Nathaniel, Isabella Grace, Christopher, Mia, Mollie, Zachary and Will; a sister, Virginia (Melfi) Albanese of East Syracuse; sisters-in-law, Henrietta Melfi of Liverpool and Donna Melfi of Syracuse along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 9:30 am in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME and 10:30 am in Blessed Sacrament Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.
