Luke J. Oscuro's Obituary
Luke J. Oscuro, of Syracuse, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2016. He was born and raised on the North Side of Syracuse and was a graduate of North High School, Le Moyne College and Syracuse University. He served six years in the Air Force Reserves with the 125th Air National Guard and the 174th Reserve. Luke was an art instructor in Long Island, Syracuse and North Syracuse for the major part of his career. He studied privately with noted local artists in Syracuse, Utica, Clinton, and Scottsdale, AZ. His own paintings were displayed in Syracuse, the Munson-Proctor Museum in Utica, and the Kirkland Art Gallery in Clinton, NY. He was very active in theater for over thirty years, especially with the Pompeian Players in many featured roles and also utilized his attributes in scenic design, costume design and directed “Funny Girl” in his last association with the Players. Luke also sang in the church choir at Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter and Assumption Church for a total of fifty years.
He is survived by cousins, Mary Verginio Donardo, Nancy Verginio Andreis, Anne Verginio Hurley, Peter DiBello, Julia DiBello, Nancy Ann Hooper, Nancy Muolo Testa and numerous cousins in Syracuse and Italy.
A Funeral Mass in celebration of Luke’s life will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church. Burial will follow in Assumption Cemetery. Per his wishes, there will be no calling hours. THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME is handling funeral arrangements.
