M. Marlene (Bane) Hargraves' Obituary
M. Marlene (Bane) Hargraves, age 86, of Liverpool, passed away on June 6, 2023 at home after a long illness.
She was born to James I and Mina Loris Bane on February 21, 1937 in Syracuse, NY. Marlene met the love of her life, Richard (Dick) Hargraves when they began a pen pal relationship while she was in college at Le Moyne and Dick was a Marine stationed in Beirut, Lebanon. They wrote letters for 18 months before finally meeting up at her family camp on Upper Chase Lake in the Adirondacks. Marlene graduated from The Convent School and Le Moyne College and then taught for 27 years in the Syracuse Catholic School System. She and Dick were married June 27, 1959 at St Joseph German Church. They raised 3 children, spent countless hours/days/weeks at the family camp on Upper Chase Lake, traveled extensively and spent 13 winters in New Smyrna Beach, Florida.
She is predeceased by both her parents, several cousins and many dear friends.
Marlene is survived by her husband, Richard Hargraves; daughters, Lynn (Kevin) Kapell of Rochester, NY and Jill Davis of Liverpool; son, Rich Hargraves of East Syracuse and grandchildren, Tannis and Alyssa Kapell, Tom and Sean Davis and Ryan, Ava and Kelci Hargraves, along with her beloved niece, nephews and cousins.
A Funeral Mass in celebration of Marlene’s life will be held at 9:30 am on Monday, June 12, 2023 at Epiphany Parish at St. Joseph the Worker Church, 1001 Tulip St., Liverpool, NY. Entombment will follow in Assumption Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call from 2:00 – 4:00 pm on Sunday, June 11, 2023 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Franciscan Sisters Motherhouse - Retirement Fund or Francis House.
