Mara "Baba" Mangovski's Obituary
Mara "Baba" Mangovski, 80, of Kirkville, NY passed away October 7, 2012, at her home, surrounded by her husband, sons, and her extended family. Born in Velusina, Macedonia, on January 5, 1932, she married Yovan Mangovski in 1950. On October 4th, they celebrated their 62nd anniversary. Mr. & Mrs. Mangovski, and their two sons lived in Velusina until they immigrated to the United States in 1961. She was predeceased by her daughter, Lilyanna who passed as an infant in Velusina.
The Mangovski's settled in Syracuse, NY, where Mara was reunited with her parents, Marko & Velika Yankulovich, her five sisters, four of whom were also married and had their own families. Upon moving to Syracuse, she and her husband joined the family business, Liberty Market in Syracuse. Subsequently, they were both employed at BG Sulzle Needle Company, and were partners in Collamer Stop & Shop in East Syracuse, until they realized their dream to become sole proprietors of their own family business.
In 1970, Mara joined her husband in opening the North Avenue Superette, which they operated until 1980. In 1980, they opened John & Son's Fly Road Market in East Syracuse, which the family has continued to operate for 32 years.
Mara was devoted to her family and her church. She was an active member of St. George Macedonian Eastern Orthodox Church. She loved to cook, bake, knit and crochet. All of which benefited many church festivals, craft shows and church functions. Mara was devoted to her work. She loved serving her customers. Family and church were constant in her life. Her smile and positive attitude until her death were an inspiration to her entire family.
She is survived by her husband, Yovan; her sons, Boshko (Sofi) Mangovski and Vasko (Elica) Mangovski, both from Kirkville; her grandchildren, Samantha (Salvatore) Procopio of East Syracuse, Christina (Chris) Campolo of Buffalo, Johnny (Jamie) Mangovski of Liverpool, Maria (Alexander) Stojcevski of Lemont, IL, Marc and Katie Mangovski of Kirkville; her great grandchildren, Lilyanna, Lana and Mila Mangovski; her sisters, Milica Dudevski, Luba (Slavejko) Aleksovski, Zoya (Vlade) Stefan, Menka (Peter) Ristevski and Diane Sofie (Nikola) Paunovski; 17 nieces and nephews, 18 great nieces and nephews, and 1 great-great-grandniece.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 13th at 8:30 am in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME and 10:00 am in St. George Macedonian Eastern Orthodox Church, 5083 Onondaga Road, Syracuse. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse on Friday, October 12th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm, followed by a Trisagion Prayer at 7:00 pm.
