Margaret M. Marra's Obituary
Margaret M. Marra, 100, of Syracuse, passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at The Cottages at Garden Grove. Daughter of the late Anthony and Mary Marra, Margaret was first in her family to graduate from Eastwood High School and complete training at Central City Business Institute (CCBI) in Syracuse. She had a long career in Hotel Management, Food and Beverage Services, including as executive assistant at the Hotel Syracuse (1950s--1960s), and at Biltmore, Commodore, Prince George, Hilton Hotels in the New York City metropolitan area, where Margaret lived and worked for over 25 years. She was invited into NFBPWC, a pioneer federation of business professional women, which recognized her professional dedication in a letter of commendation.
After retiring, Margaret was active in AARP, coordinating senior travel, events and fundraising. She enjoyed arts, crafting, knitting and crocheting; and she created ways to use crafting skills of her retirement home neighbors to benefit needy members of the Syracuse community. Margaret attended St. John the Evangelist Church.
She was predeceased by seven younger, adult siblings and by her long-time companion, Ralph Gallione.
Margaret is survived by her brother, Nate and sister, Laura Marra, and by over 60+ first, second and third generation nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass in celebration of Margaret’s life will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, May 1, 2015 at Blessed Sacrament Church, 3127 James St., Syracuse. Entombment will follow in Assumption Cemetery Mausoleum.
