Margaret "Marge" L. Polito's Obituary
Marge Polito a life time resident of Syracuse, passed away on Saturday August 14, 2010 at the age of 81 from complications related to cancer. From a young age, Marge was always a high energy person. She loved flowers and while still in high school Marge worked at a downtown Syracuse florist where her passion continued to grow. In 1963 with four small children, Marge and Rudy opened Marge Polito’s Florist. Over the next 35 years Marge Polito’s Florist became well known in CNY, everyone seemed to know Marge. It took a lot of courage and hard work to build a successful business in the sixties. During that period Marge became an active member of Our Lady of Pompei Saint Therese Society and Our Lady of Pompei Mothers Club (President 1969 – 1970). Marge was an active advocate of the floral industry in CNY, being instrumental in organizing a 14 florist co-op for group buying and delivery services. She taught floral design at BOCES and regularly demonstrated at the NYS Fair. She loved her gardens, her golf leagues and especially cooking and baking for her family and friends. She was an active member of the Italian American Heritage Club. In 1999 Marge and Rudy retired and began spending their winters in Bradenton, FL. Marge and Rudy have many friends at their winter home at Desoto Square Villas. For the past several years Marge has been on the Board of Directors and Vice President of the Desoto Square Villas Owner Association. . Marge Polito is survived by her husband of 59 plus years Rudy Polito and four children: Vinnie Polito, Rudy (Linda) Polito, Susan (Jerry Shaw) Polito and Jacqueline (Paul) Colaneri and six grandchildren. She is also survived by brothers, Anthony (Amelia) Tedesco and Vincent (Jeanice) Tedesco and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 9:30 am in the Thomas J. Pirro Funeral Home and 10:30 am in Our Lady of Pompei Church. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at Thomas J. Pirro Funeral Home in North Syracuse. The Holy Name and St. Therese Society will recite their ritual on Tuesday at 2:30 pm. Donations may be made to Our Lady of Pompei Building Fund and the Francis House.
