Marguerite A. (Matteo) Cowan's Obituary
Marguerite (Matteo) Cowan passed away peacefully on November 4, 2025, at Loretto Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Syracuse, NY to Nicholas and Concetta Matteo on August 8, 1933, Marguerite was a lifelong resident of the north side. She was a 1951 graduate of North High School and a 1963 graduate of Beaux Art School of Beauty and Culture. Marguerite was employed by AT&T as a telephone operator and was the owner/operator of Margie’s Beauty Shop. She enjoyed spending time with family, traveling and was a talented painter. She had a soft spot for any dog or cat that came her way. Marguerite’s loved ones will miss her warm, welcoming smile and gentle gracious nature.
She was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Edmond L. Cowan, whom she married on September 6, 1975. Survivors include her brother Gene (Ingeborg) Matteo, her grandson Michael Magistro, along with her large extended family.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at 10:30 A.M. at Blessed Sacrament Church, 3127 James St., Syracuse, NY 13206. Marguerite will be laid to rest with her husband at the Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Monday, November 10, 2025, from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME 3401 Vickery Rd. (Corner of Buckley Rd.) Syracuse, NY 13212.
