Maria Sofia Bettua's Obituary
Maria Sofia (Coppola) Bettua,61, passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2011 in a Maryland hospital from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Maria immigrated from Naples, Italy to Syracuse, NY. She was an alumnus of Syracuse University’s Maxwell School. She fostered education with the Council for International Exchange of Scholars in Washington DC, managing the Fulbright Scholarship program with international teams. She was predeceased by her father, Anthony Coppola in 2008, aunts and uncles in both USA and Italy. Maria is survived by her husband of 41 years, Peter; her sons, Michael, Thomas and Gerald (Melissa) Bettua; her mother, Eleanor Coppola; sister, Silvana (Dana) Loucks; two nieces, two nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday at 8:00 AM in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME and 9:00 AM in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Burial will follow in Assumption Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY on Friday from 4 to 7 PM.
