Marian A. Brooks

It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of our mother, Marian A. Brooks. She was the cornerstone of our family and a beloved mother to eight children. Marian passed away peacefully on October 8, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Utica NY on April 27, 1925, to Royal and Alice Alexander. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, who looked up to her as a hero, cherishing her wisdom and quick wit. She is survived by her devoted children, Marilyn (Mike) Bergett, Michael (Anna) Brooks, Pat (David) Smith, Alice Coleman (Marc Caselle), Nancy Brooks and Joanne (Steve) Saya. Marian is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and two daughters-in-law. She was preceded in death by her husband Anthony J. Brooks, two of her sons Anthony R. Brooks and James E. Brooks and one great-granddaughter Shannon Cross. Marian settled in Syracuse from Utica and graduated from St. Vincent de Paul School. This established her dedication to her Catholic faith, and the parish was her spiritual home for life. She attended weekly mass right up until August 10, 2025. After graduation, Marian began her career with New York Telephone until she married Anthony (Tony) Brooks in 1944. Marian dedicated over 20 years to staying at home and raising eight children. In 1966, Marian pursued a career with the Traffic Violations Bureau until she retired at the age of 65. Upon retirement, Marian joined the Happy Roamers and took several trips with other seniors and thoroughly enjoyed herself. We heard many stories about her favorite trip to Las Vegas! She also became actively involved in the Alter Rosary Society and Lenten Dinners demonstrating her unwavering commitment to St. Vincent’s Parish. Her legendary Italian feasts at our holiday gatherings were always eagerly anticipated. Marian will be remembered for her resilience and her incredible personal strength. She lived a life of deep integrity and left behind a legacy that is a gift for future generations. Visitation will take place from 2:00 P.M. – 5:00 P.M. on Monday, October 13, 2025, at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY. A funeral Mass in celebration of a life well lived will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, in St. Vincent de Paul Church, 342 Vine Street, Syracuse, NY. Private interment will take place in Assumption Cemetery.
