Marie (Di Carlo) Ciarla's Obituary
Marie Antoinette (Di Carlo) Ciarla, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 7, 2021 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born and raised in Manhattan, NY to the late Joseph and Josephine Di Carlo, later moving to Syracuse in 1954 and graduated from North High School. In 1961, Marie married the love of her life, Louis L. Ciarla, Sr. and together they started a family. Her nursing career started at St. Joseph’s Hospital, however Marie also worked for other area hospitals and even did private care. She was a member of the Nurses Professional Registry and retired in 1985.
Marie was an enthusiastic member of the Pompeian Players with Father Charles L. Borgognoni and had great admiration for her fellow players, always cherishing the friendships she made. The experience made a big impact on her life. Marie was a member of St. Charles Parish for 56 years, but her heart always belonged to Our Lady of Pompei Church, where she was married and where her funeral mass will be celebrated.
She was also a member the Solvay Tigers Auxiliary and the Tuscarora Golf Club for 23 years, where she chaired various events and made many lasting friendships. Her true pride and joy, however, was her family. She and Lou were big fans of SU sports and were football and basketball season ticket holders for for over 25 years. Marie’s favorite events were those of her grandchildren, she attended scores of athletic, dance and musical performances throughout the years.
Besides her parents, Marie is predeceased by her siblings, Esther Cannizzo and Anthony Di Carlo.
She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Louis L. Ciarla, Sr.; her children, Lynn M. (Kevin) Agostini, Renee M. DeAngelis, and Louis L. (Lori) Ciarla, Jr.; 10 grandchildren, Mark (Brittany) DeAngelis Jr., Louis Ciarla III, Nicole (Ian) Bushnell, Patrick Ciarla, Craig Agostini, Matthew DeAngelis, Rachel Agostini, Alexandra Ciarla, Paige Agostini, and Michael DeAngelis; 2 great-grandchildren, Emmett Bushnell and Rosalie DeAngelis; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral mass in celebration of Marie’s life will be held at 10 am on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at Our Lady of Pompei/ St. Peter Church, 301 Ash Street Syracuse, NY. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call from 4 – 6 pm on Friday, March 12, 2021 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Road (corner of Buckley Road) North Syracuse.
