Marie DeGroot's Obituary
Marie Simone DeGroot, 94, of East Syracuse passed away Friday at the Iroquois Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family. A life resident, her husband R. Elliot DeGroot passed away in 1969. She had been employed by the City of Syracuse at City Hall in the Title & Abstract office for many years before retiring in l979. Marie enjoyed traveling, was an avid baseball fan, an accomplished pinochle player, former member of the CBA Mothers Club and active in the Wagon Wheel at the Corinthian Club. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brother & sisters, Archie Simone, Anne Santola, Nicholas Simone and Louise Michels. Marie is survived by her son, Richard E.(Carol) DeGroot; 3 grandchildren, Michele D. (Mark) Bennett of Long Island, R. Elliot DeGroot of Baltimore, MD., Garrett Paul DeGroot of Orlando,FL; 2 great grandchildren, Colleen and Samuel Bennett; 2 brothers, Anthony (Joanne) Simone and Dominic Simone, both of Syracuse; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 VICKERY RD. (Corner of Buckley), North Syracuse, and 12:10 PM in St. Daniel's Church. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 7 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Christ the King Retreat House, 500 Brookford Rd., Syracuse, NY 13224.
