Marilyn Marguerite (Cross) Salvie

Our beloved mother, Marilyn Marguerite (Cross) Salvie, 94, passed peacefully at home on October 19, 2023. A Syracuse native born on October 8, 1929 to the late Edwin Cross, Sr. and Marguerite (Vogler) Cross. Marilyn pursued her education and graduated from Syracuse University in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science degree. After graduating, she accepted a position with Bristol Laboratories as a Lab Technician. Marilyn met her husband of 70 years while attending a wedding with her family in Norwood, R.I. She married Raymond Salvie in 1952 and together they raised five children in the Liverpool area. ‘Missy’ was also beloved by many children in her neighborhood. She was an exceptional baker, always taking special orders for birthday cakes, producing untold amounts of cookies, and treating her family to delicious breads, pies and kuchen. She also enjoyed making homemade jams and jellies along with her famous dill pickles. Marilyn was a long-time community volunteer spending time with the Girl Scouts, the Salt Museum Guild, Sainte Marie Among the Iroquois, Friends of Historic Onondaga Lake and the Bayberry Garden Club. She was a talented and award-winning floral designer, collecting many ribbons and prizes from competitions held in the Syracuse area and at the New York State Fair. She was the Manager of the Floral Department at the John Glenn Wegmans store for over 10 years. Marilyn forged lifelong friendships in the Bayberry Garden Club. Later in life, the ‘Potted Posies’ traveled to Europe multiple times to discover the wonders of master gardeners abroad. Marilyn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who will be greatly missed. She is predeceased by her daughter Dawn; husband Raymond; brothers, Douglas Cross, Donald Cross, and Edwin Cross, Jr. Surviving are her children, Scott Salvie, Ellen Salvie (John Paestella), Jeff Salvie (Mindy Chabot), Evonne Pacini (David), and Dan Salvie; grandchildren, Chloe Floyd (Gray), Joseph Salvie-Lombardo; great-grandson, Henry Floyd, Jr.; great-granddaughter, Josephine Floyd; sister, Linda Kick (Robert Sr.), and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to acknowledge the excellent and compassionate care provided to Marilyn over many years by her angels, Janet Marshall, Denise Morse, Sue Loewer and Lisa Cenajko. No better care team exists. A Funeral Mass in celebration of Marilyn’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, October 27, 2023 at St. Matthews Episcopal Church, 900 Vine St., Liverpool, with burial to follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
