For those who don't know me I am Marge's last born and I assure you she saved the best for last.
If you are here it is to mourn my mother's death but let us not mourn, let us celebrate, My mother suffered at the end and no one should have to go through that. I believe that where she is now is a much better place. She is with her parents, friends and free from illness. If you had the pleasure of knowing her you can believe she is playing the slots and drinking a beer as we gather here today in memory of her.
Let me tell you a few things about my mom, she made the best Christmas cookies ever, her apple pie was amazing, and I never knew how good stake was until I moved out and came back for dinner. She was an amazing cook.
Margie ( as I liked to call her ) was a wonderful, Witty and social person with a bright smile and a fantastic sense of humor. She loved to laugh. When I was about 10 years old we would go every Thursday grocery shopping at Wegmans, my mother loved to shop and she did it very well, as we left the parking lot my 5'2” mother who couldn’t see over the big green Cadillac steering wheel drove right over a fire hydrant, but that wasn't the worst of it she kept driving till a gentleman knocked on the window to her to stop. She did but she dragged the hydrant about 2o feet. Imagine my dad surprise when he got phone call. There was another time when she was in the hospital and my brother Bobby came in dresses head toe in gloves, mask and a gown flawing his arms saying “ calling Dr. Bob, calling Dr. Bob “. If you could have seen the look on her face. She told him he was crazy, needless to say Dr. Bob was there till the end. Even in her last days she called upon Michel to explain in her words “ get your shit together “. Now we know who we get our sense of humor from.
My mother had many pleasures, she loved Sunday morning when Bobby would bring doughnuts and have coffee with her and my father, oh and if he didn't bring them there was hell to pay. She shared the love of mincemeat pie with Paul, having the occasional beer with Carmen and Sandy and shopping with my sister Annamae, witch they did quite often and very well I might add. She and I shared our love for the Yankees. When I worked for the Toronto Blue Jays I was able to bring her to see a game, we arrived early enough to see batting practice and decided to have lunch at the Hard Rock cafe, from our seats we could see everything. While we were eating her eyes got very wide, her face lit up like she saw the president, I immediacy thought Derek Jeter was behind me and I got very excited, my mother said to me “if you embarrass me ill kill you”To my surprise Louise Soho and Gorge Posida sat right behind us, as I looked up, they said hi I couldn't get a word out, but not Margie she turned right around and proceeded to explain to the how to play the game if they wanted to win that day. They day they did and I’m sure they attribute it to her or at least she would like to think so.
Mom loved Las Vegas and traveled there several times with her grand children and friends coming home a winner every time. She was a lucky person I guess. I will now be playing the lottery hoping that she will have given her good luck to me.
She loved and adored her husband of 64 years, always smiling as he came through the door. She would have done anything for her family making her a kind soul. She was generous and always there to help at any given time. She always tried to see the good in people and tried to instill that in all of us.
Marge touched each and every one of us in some way or another. She is at peace, in a much better place and looking down on us. If she were still here she would not want to see us shed a tear or wallow in our sorrow. She would want us to celebrate for her new life that has now just begun.
