Mark S. Mitchell's Obituary
Mark S. Mitchell, 66, of North Syracuse passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. Despite a long illness, Mark was able to persevere and travel during his seven-year battle. Mark’s courage along with the loving support of family and friends helped him to enjoy his life as much as possible. Born in Syracuse, N.Y. on July 29, 1953, he was the son of the late Leland S. and Florence Dwyer Mitchell.
Mark was a lifelong resident of Central New York. He was a graduate of North Syracuse High School, where as a Senior he served as the Student Council President. Following that he attended Onondaga Community College. Mark was a gifted carpenter and home remodeler. His creativity, workmanship, and meticulous attention to detail made him a highly sought-after master craftsman. It was through his craft he expressed his exceptional artistic abilities.
Mark was an exceptionally loving, kind, compassionate and generous man. He was gifted with a keen sense of humor and was very skilled at bringing laughter into the lives of everyone he met. He always went out of his way to show respect and kindness to those less fortunate among us.
Mark was most at peace when surrounded by nature, especially time shared with family and friends at the family cottage on Clear Lake. His home and cottage were always open to all. When you were a guest, you were treated to “Mo’s BBQ”. He was also a master chef in the kitchen. Over the course of his lifetime Mark enjoyed fishing, water skiing and boating. He loved his dogs and everyone’s dog was always welcome. Mark ensured memorable times around the campfire as he always made it both welcoming and a time of laughter.
Surviving are his loving wife of 46 years, Mary Lou (Schneider) Mitchell of North Syracuse; daughters, Mallory (Sal) Alessandro of Syracuse; Mickey (Zach) Murphy of Fayetteville; sisters, Judith M. (Stephen) Dieso of Kansas City, MO; Lisa A. Mitchell (Jeff Owens) of Liverpool; brothers, Charles J. (Nelly) Mitchell of Portland, OR; Michael S. (Cathy) Mitchell of Heathrow, FL; and Brian E.
