Martha (Ianno) Gangemi's Obituary
Martha (Ianno) Gangemi, of Syracuse, passed away Sunday, May 29, 2016 at Loretto Nursing Home, with her family by her side. She was born in Reggio Calabria, Italy, daughter of Pietro and Angelina (Pensabene) Ianno. Before moving to Syracuse, Martha lived in Brooklyn, NY. Martha loved to cook for family, friends and neighbors, often feeding the neighborhood. Everyone loved her meatballs, lasagna and apple pies. Martha loved to speak in Italian and enjoyed teaching the language to others. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a genuine, unique way of spreading joy and love to others.
She was predeceased by her husband, Christian Gangemi in 1979 and her sister, Anne Casciano in 2013.
Martha is survived by her son, Anthony (Sheila) Gangemi of Syracuse; two grandchildren, Lori (Mark) McIntyre and Jodi (Josh) Arvidson; four great-grandchildren, Molly, Ian, Mia and Noah.
A prayer service will be held at 1:30 pm on Friday, June 3, 2016 at the Eternal Light Chapel at Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum, 800 Grant Blvd., Syracuse, NY. THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME is in charge of funeral arrangements.
