Martin P. Piraino Sr.'s Obituary
Martin P. Piraino, Sr., 87, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully at his summer home on Sunday surrounded by his loving family. Marty attended LeMoyne College and later served in the U.S. Air Force and Marines. Marty managed his father’s business, James St. Lanes Bowling Alley in Eastwood, and retired from The Syracuse Fire Department after 20 years of service. After retirement Marty and Barbara spent 26 years in Clearwater, FL. Marty also enjoyed bowling, fishing, playing cards, model building, and spending summers at the camp he built on Oneida Lake. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and making them laugh.
Marty is predeceased by his parents, Lena (LoBello) and Peter Piraino; and his brother John Piraino. Marty is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Barbara (Reale) Piraino; his 4 sons, Martin (Melanie) Piraino Jr. of St. Louis, MO, Peter (Anne) Piraino of Liverpool, Michael Piraino of Central Square, Lewis (Terry) Piraino of Phoenix, NY, and his only daughter Barbara Jean Wirickx of Syracuse; a sister Sarah (Dominic) Urciuoli; a brother Albert (Janet) Piraino; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 in Blessed Sacrament Church. Family and friends may call from 4:00-7:00 pm on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Marty’s name may be made to Hospice of CNY, 990 7th N St., Liverpool, NY 13088.
