Mary Ann (Baker) Capone's Obituary
Mary Ann B. Capone passed peacefully on October 29, 2022. She was born in Syracuse on December 17, 1938 and was the daughter of the late Raymond F. and Verna O. Baker. She graduated from Tully High School in 1956 and from Crouse Irving Hospital Nursing Program with her RN in 1959. She then completed her bachelor’s degree at Cortland State and served as a school nurse and Health teacher in the LaFayette School District her entire career.
Mary Ann was completely devoted to her family and was a loving, caring wife, mother, and grandmother and most happy in their presence. She eagerly attended all her children and grandchildren’s activities be it in the music, athletic or scholastic domain.
Mary Ann volunteered as an EMT with the LaFayette Fire Department for several years and served as treasurer of the Southern Hills Garden Club as gardening was one of her favorite pastimes. She loved playing the piano, playing tennis, skiing, watching SU football and basketball at the Dome, dancing, knitting, sewing and travel. Many winter months were enjoyed in Florida with family and friends. She was a sensitive, caring person, poised and proper and always willing to help others. Mary Ann provided a loving home and will be deeply missed.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her two sons, James V. Capone and Randolph B. Capone, M.D. and her brother, Raymond.
Mary Ann is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Robert L. Capone; daughter, Linda (Patrick) Byrnes of Jordan; daughter-in-law, Marisa Capone of Baltimore, MD; her brother, Peter Baker of Baldwinsville; grandchildren, Nicholas, Kaitlin and Brianna Byrnes, Vincenzo “Enzo” and Leonardo “Leo” Capone and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 4, 2022, from 4:00 – 700 p.m. at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Road, (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY. A Funeral Service in celebration of Mary Ann’s life will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at the Columbian Presbyterian Church in LaFayette, NY. Burial will be private for the immediate family at a later date in LaFayette Rural Cemetery.
