Mary C. Capponi's Obituary
Mary Catherine Capponi, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2025.
A proud graduate of Elmira Catholic High School, class of 1952, Mary Kay went on to pursue her calling in nursing, graduating from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in 1955. Her compassion and gentle spirit made her an extraordinary caregiver throughout her decades-long career. Among her favorite roles were serving the North Syracuse School District and working in Dr. Maglione’s office, her kindness impacted countless lives.
In 1954, Mary Kay met the love of her life, Peter Capponi II, of Rome, NY. The two were married in 1957 and built a beautiful life together anchored in love, family and faith. Together they raised two children, Peter (Julie) Capponi III and Barbara (David) Ross, who were the pride and joy of her life. Mary Kay’s heart was fullest when she was surrounded by her family. She cherished her four grandchildren, Peter Capponi IV, Joshua (Shoshana) Ross, Kayla (Bryant) Goewey, and Sarah (Teresa) Ross, celebrating every milestone and offering endless love and support. Her legacy continues through her great grandchildren, Addison and Cooper Goewey; Aviva and Ber Ross.
Mary Kay’s life was defined by her devotion to others. She made the world brighter simply by being in it. She will be remembered for her grace.
Mary Kay is now reunited with her beloved daughter and her loving parents. Her family takes comfort in knowing they are together again.
The family would like to extend a sincere thanks to the 12th floor Memory Care Unit at Loretto for their care and support of Mary Kay the last 2 ½ years.
A Funeral Mass in celebration of Mary Kay’s life will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at St. Rose of Lima Church, 409 S. Main St., N. Syracuse, NY, followed by burial in North Syracuse Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 6:00 pm on Tuesday, November 4, 2025 at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) N. Syracuse, NY.
