Mary (Zampi) Congel's Obituary
Mary (Zampi) Congel, 97, of Liverpool, passed away Monday at Loretto. She was born in Syracuse, the daughter of the late Andrew and Susan Zampi. Mary was a graduate of Eastwood High School and a Post Graduate of North High School, where she met her husband, Edward of 50 years who passed away in 1986. She was the owner and operator of Congel's Dress Shop for 29 years. Mary enjoyed oil painting and received many awards throughout the years for her work. She also enjoyed shooting craps and playing Blackjack well into her 90's.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband and siblings. Mary is survived by three loving children, Jean Congel of Liverpool; Edward (Janet) Congel of California and George ( Beverly) Congel of Liverpool; six cherished grandchildren, Suzanne (Kevin) Shaw, Mark E. Congel, Edward (Jennifer) Congel, Christine (Michael) Mahon, Jonathan Congel and Matthew Congel; eight great-grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mary's family would like to express a special thank you to the Loretto 7th floor Cunningham Staff for their outstanding, loving care of Mary.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 9:00 am in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME and 10:00 am in Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church, where a funeral mass will be celebrated. Entombment will follow in the family mausoleum at Assumption Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd. ) North Syracuse on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.
