Mary (Cafarelli) De Angelis' Obituary
Mary (Cafarelli) De Angelis, fondly known as “Mary D,” passed away on Wednesday, July 4, 2018.
Mary grew up on Syracuse’s Northside and graduated from North High School. In her youth, Mary was a member of the Progressive Youth Drum and Bugle Corp where she made many lifelong friendships. She began working for Chappell’s Department store after graduation and stayed until her retirement in 1994. Mary began her retail career as a sales clerk working her way up to Buyer of Women’s accessories. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church where she was a member of the St. Therese Society and the Mothers Club. Mary was also a backstage member of the Pompeian Players for many years.
The daughter of the late Sam & Angie Cafarelli, Mary was the widow of Michael De Angelis who passed away in 1976. Mary was predeceased by her siblings and their spouses: Rose & Art Concolino, Daniel Ventura, Connie Klusyk, Al (Tot) & Marion Cafarelli, baby brother Arthur Cafarelli, Bob Cafarelli and Helen Sands. She was also predeceased by her sister-in-law, Virginia Lanza. Mary is survived by her daughter, Maryann Iannettone; sister-in-law, Jean Cafarelli; brother-in-law, Anthony Lanza, along with many nieces and nephews.
Mary’s family would especially like to thank the entire staff of A-South at Bishop Rehabilitation & Nursing Care Center for the wonderful care and compassion they gave Mary during her stay with them.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, July 9, 2018 from 9 – 10:45 am at Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church, 301 Ash St., Syracuse, followed by a funeral mass in celebration of Mary’s life at 11:00 am in Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church. Burial will follow in Assumption Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church.
