Mary A. (DeSalvo) Donzella's Obituary
Mary A. (DeSalvo) Donzella, 99, of East Syracuse, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, November 12, 2014. She was born in Syracuse, the daughter of the late Pasquale and Maria DeSalvo. Mary was a contributor to and supporter of Golisano Children’s Hospital at Upstate for over 30 years. Mary and her late husband Sam loved to entertain family and friends. Their home was often the place for family to gather and enjoy Mary’s cooking, especially her baked goods.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Salvatore “Sam” Donzella; her son, Samuel “Sam” Donzella; her sisters, Josie, Frances, Margaret, and Genny; her brothers, Patsy and Albert “Eddie”.
Mary is survived by her two sons, Ben (Red) Donzella and Art (Patty) Donzella; daughter-in-law, Carol Donzella. She was blessed with six grandchildren, Denise (Glenn) Nicholls, Bonny (Terry) Donzella, Amy (Jim) Homa, Nikkole, Emily, and Christopher Donzella; four great-grandchildren, Alicia and Olivia Nicholls and Katie and Kelly Homa. Also surviving, her sister, Virginia Aloi, her brother, Anthony DeSalvo, a cousin, Peter (Mary) DeSalvo, along with many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 am on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at the THOMAS J.
PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Mary’s life at 10:00 am in St. Matthew’s Church. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
