Mary C. (Froio) Locaputo's Obituary
Mary C. (Froio) Locaputo, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2022, at the age of 89. Born in Satriano, Italy, Mary travelled to the United States in 1937 with her mother and sister to join her father and brother. She graduated from North High School and attended LeMoyne College. Mary worked at EMKAY Candle Company and Carrier Corporation. Mary donated her time to many causes including baking cookies for sales, making soup for the sick and knitting baby blankets for hospital nurseries. She was a member of the Youth Groups and St. Theresa Society at Our Lady of Pompei, the Altar and Rosary Society at Blessed Sacrament, and the Woman’s Guild at St. Matthew’s. She rolled bandages for the Catholic Medical Mission Group, was a Camp Fire leader, a member of the St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary, and a long-time volunteer of the Human Development and Bereavement Luncheon Committees at St. Matthew’s and the Second Time Around Store. For many years, she was also the refreshment chairman for the Syracuse Parkinson’s Association. Mary loved to bake and cook, especially for her beloved family and friends; she took great joy in feeding them and spending as much time with them as possible.
She is predeceased by her dearly loved husband, Michael, and dearly loved son, Steven.
Mary is survived by her children, Kathryn (Patrick) Williams, Marie (David) Oppedisano, Michael (Cindy) Locaputo and Lisa Locaputo; grandchildren, Lauren and Michael Williams, Michelle Oppedisano, Jenna, Elizabeth (Matthew DeStefano) and Christopher Locaputo; along with several nieces, nephews, godchildren, relatives, and friends.
Mary has chosen to donate her body to Upstate Medical University. Visitation will be held at St. Matthew’s Church on November 19, 2022, from 9 - 10:30 am. A memorial mass in celebration of Mary’s life will follow at 10:30 am in the church.
