Mary Kay (Hendry) Steigerwald's Obituary
Mary Kay (Hendry) Steigerwald, 77, of Syracuse, NY passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2020. Born in Syracuse on May 21, 1943, she grew up in the Eastwood area and eventually raised a family in East Syracuse and Manlius. Mary Kay graduated from Assumption Catholic Academy in 1961. Following school she worked for a law firm in Syracuse. She married Robert Steigerwald and raised three boys. Mary Kay was an avid golfer and played competitively in the Syracuse District Golf Association for many years. She had a fantastic group of friends who loved days of golf at Cazenovia Country Club and fun annual outings to Old Forge, NY and LuRay, Virginia. Their crew was sure to play lots of pitch games and had “a lot of laughs”. Mary Kay was a mean card player and enjoyed playing pitch and hand & foot with her friends up until last month. Always looking forward to taking your money! She loved a good puzzle and a long late-night game of Boggle with “Sal” (Patty). She never forgot a birthday or anniversary and was known for her greeting cards, xo. Most of all she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents Armela (Reschke) and Jack Hendry, and brother in law Donald Ziegler.
Mary Kay is survived by her three sons, Robert Steigerwald, Jr. of East Syracuse; Mark (Jennifer) Steigerwald of Canastota; and Jeffrey (Joni) Steigerwald of Manlius; her beloved grandchildren who loved their Nana (Muffin), Danielle Steigerwald, Katy Steigerwald, Andrew Steigerwald, Annie Steigerwald, Kaylee Steigerwald, Melanie Steigerwald, and Caroline Steigerwald; her sister, Patricia (Hendry) Ziegler of Bel Air, Maryland; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Steigerwald LaRose of Syracuse; she will also be missed by her cousins, six nieces and nephews and their families.
Please join us for a memorial mass honoring Mary at 10 am on Saturday, June 12, 2021, at St. Ann’s Church, 104 Academy St., Manlius, NY 13104. The family looks forward to a celebration of her life when all of her friends can attend to have a laugh and share a memory.
