Mary Theresa Lyons' Obituary
Mary Theresa (Dillon) Lyons, 85, of Syracuse, passed away on Sunday. She was born on St. Valentine's Day in 1926 in Everett, MA., the daughter of David and Anne (Burke) Dillon. Mary was a graduate of Mt. St. Joseph Academy in Brighton, MA and the Kathleen Dell School in Boston, MA. She was an assistant to the director of the Boston YMCA, where she met her husband, Jay. Mary was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in Syracuse. Mary was past president of the Parent Organizations of Convent, Henninger, Lincoln Jr. High and Salem Hyde Elementary. She was a poll inspector and worked for the Board of Elections. Mary was an accomplished pianist, dancer and baker. She always looked forward to playing bridge with the girls. She was predeceased by her husband, John Joseph (Jay) Lyons, III in 1991. Mary is survived by her six children, Nan H. (David) Piekarski of Plymouth, MI., Meredith T. Kusumoto of Newport, RI., Tracey E. McCarthy of Boston, MA., Sara J. (James) Malgieri of Pittsford, NY, John J. (Cathleen) Lyons, IV of Camillus and Kimberly L. (Gary) Creatore of Syracuse; seven grandchildren, Kara, Kurt and Devon Piekarski, Aran and Brian Malgieri, John, V and Mary Lyons; goddaughter, Joan Kelley of Winchester, MA; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday at 9:30 AM in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME and 10:30 AM in Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME on Thursday from 4 to 7 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels of Syracuse, 300 Burt St., Syracuse, NY 13202.
