Mary Jane (Masterpole) Mather's Obituary
Mary Jane (Masterpole) Mather, 92, of Williamsburg, VA; passed away peacefully Monday morning, April 24, 2023. Mary Jane was born and raised in Syracuse and later in life, settled in Virginia. She was a 1948 graduate from Vocational High School and was awarded the “All Around Cup.” In high school she was a cheerleader and loved journalism. Shortly after high school, Mary Jane married the love of her life, Martin. She worked for Catholic Charities and worked for Smith and Slovak Law firm in the 50’s specializing in shorthand. She loved baking and was known for her “Mary Jane oyster crackers,” Irish soda bread, Sherry wine cakes, and much more. We all got to enjoy her cookouts. She also enjoyed playing the organ for many years with Piano and Organ Center. Some of her fondest memories were spontaneous trips to the Casino with friends, but most of all loved spending time with her family. She especially loved being “Gigi” to her great grandchildren which brought her much joy.
Mary Jane was predeceased by her loving husband of 70 years; Martin Mather, her parents, Genevieve (Guido) Masterpole, John J. Masterpole; brother John James Masterpole; daughter, Deborah Anne Ruffini and grandson Michael S. Rinaldo.
Surviving are her two sons, Martin (LeAnn) Mather, II and Gary (Trisha) Mather; sister in law, Carol Masterpole, eleven grandchildren; Mark Mather, Taylor Mather, Courtney Murrell, Joey Mather, Marty Mather III, Kyle Mather, Timothy Mather, Jonathan Mather, Larissa Rinaldo, Ryan Ruffini and Louis M. (Jennifer) Ruffini ; and eleven great-grandchildren, Grayson Ruffini, Ryan Ruffini II, Mason Rinaldo, Kaiden Mather, Alexandra Mather, Max Mather, Bella Mather, Emmett Mather, Emily Murrell, McKenzie Mather and Miranda Mather.
Calling hours will be on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, from 9:30 – 11:30 AM at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME immediately followed by a funeral service in celebration of Mary Jane’s life at 11:30 in the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (Corner of Buckley Rd.) N. Syracuse, NY 13212. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in St. Mary’s Cemetery Mausoleum.
