Mary Rose A. Strano's Obituary
Mary Rose A. (Polisino) Strano, of Syracuse passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2023, peacefully surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Syracuse, daughter of the late Santo and Laura (Lotito) Pollichemi.
Mary Rose was a graduate of North High School, Lemoyne College, and received her master’s degree from Syracuse University. She was a lifelong parishioner of Our Lady of Pompei Church, a dedicated member of the church choir, and former member of The Pompeian Players. Mary Rose retired from the Syracuse City School District after many years in a special role as secondary school teacher for the Y-MED program.
Among Mary Rose's special interests were her nightly game show line-up and teaching "little fingers" to play piano at family gatherings. Mary Rose was very generous with her time and opened her home with a smile to any visitor. She was a regular donor to several charities and was famously known by family and friends for sending birthday cards with her purple unicorn stamp.
Mary Rose is predeceased by her husband, John J. Strano.
She is survived by her two sons, John Strano and Fran Marc Strano; daughters, Lauri Strano and Andrea Strano (Fernando “Koko” Bermejo); her brother, Joseph (Wendy) Pollichemi; grandchildren, Ava, Paige, and Rider; nieces and nephews, Virginia, Stephen, Carolyn, Christopher, Adrienne, and Joseph; and many dear cousins.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 from 10:45 – 11:45 am at Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church, 301 Ash St., Syracuse, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Mary Rose’s life at 12:00 pm, with burial in Assumption Cemetery.
