Michael E. Auer's Obituary
Michael Eastwood Auer, of West Monroe passed away on Easter Sunday April 4, 2021 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Syracuse, Michael was the son of the late State Senator Martin S. Auer and Wilma Tucker Auer. A graduate of Syracuse University Mike spent his life in the Syracuse area and devoted his career to the family business Auer & Co, Inc. The company founded by Michael’s great-grandfather and great-great uncle marked its 156th year in Syracuse in 2021. Mike loved the Montreal Canadiens hockey and fishing on Oneida Lake where he spent his childhood summers. He had a lifelong interest in fire departments and fire trucks dating back to marching in the Cleveland NY fireman’s parade as a child. Mike also volunteered for Meals on Wheels and the annual Greek Festival. He was very generous often donating candy for children’s events. Like many others in his family, he loved animals, especially the family cats and dogs. Most of all, he loved his girls Christina, Andrea, and Martina.
Michael is survived by his loving wife, Christina Armatas Auer and daughters, Andrea, and Martina. Mike also leaves behind his brother, Marty Auer and sister-in-law, Nancy of Allouez, MI; his sister, Virginia Auer Parrott and brother-in-law, Bill of Oswego, as well as his nieces, Larissa Murphy Morales and great-nieces, Willa, and Kelly Murphy Miller (Jason); his nephews, Philip Murphy, and Tom Auer (Kristen) and great-niece Hope; his cousins, Charlie Auer, Mary Auer Houser and Amy Auer Ruff and their families.
Funeral services will be private at the request of the family with the Reverend Nancy A. Auer officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Funeral arrangements entrusted to THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME.
