Michael J. Ball's Obituary
Michael J. Ball, 82, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 30, 2021 at Loretto Nursing and Rehab surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Watertown to the late Margaret Michaels and served in the US Navy in Japan. Following his military service, Michael went on to work for General Motors for over 25 dedicated years. Michael enjoyed playing golf and watching the NY Yankees. He had a great love of old movies, especially westerns starring John Wayne as well as big band and 50’s genre music. After retirement, he spent a lot of time traveling. More than anything, Michael loved to spend time with family and friends, especially his beloved grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Gloria J. (Fortino) Ball; four daughters, Michele (Tim) Potts, Kathleen (Tim) Cadwell, Colleen (Matt) Bolenbaugh and Amy (Tim) Cole; eleven grandchildren, Samm, Josh, Jon, Emily, Tyler, Tristan, Trey, Holly, Hanna, Kevin and Hope; a sister, Bobbi (Paul) McWilliams; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Loretto for their exceptional care.
A funeral mass in celebration of Michael’s life will be held at 9:30 am on Saturday, September 4, 2021 in Sacred Heart Church, Cicero. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, Baldwinsville. Family and friends may call from 4 - 6 pm on Friday, September 3, 2021 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Michael’s memory may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
