Michael Braia's Obituary
Michael Braia, 73, of Liverpool, known by his old friends as “Moe,” or “Big Mike,” and later by his grandchildren as “Dolly,” passed away peacefully on Monday, May 16, 2016 at Upstate University Hospital.
Michael was born on June 28, 1942, in Syracuse, NY, to Italian immigrants Nicholas & Orlandina Braia. A life-long resident of the Syracuse area, Michael graduated from North High School in 1961, served in the United States Army Reserves, and began a career in the sheet metal industry.
He worked as a Foreman at Joseph Cashier Co., became the President of RTP Sheet Metal, Inc., and later fulfilled his life-long dream by opening M. G. Braia Fabricating, Inc. on the North Side of Syracuse.
Michael enjoyed the golden years of his life by spending time with family and friends, and loved most to spend time with his children and grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents (and step-father, Fulgenzio Altobelli), and sister, Margie Krohl.
Michael is survived by his former wife, Eleanor (Barnell); his children, Marie (David) Tubolino, Michael (Donna Imbesi), and Nicholas (Kristin Perla); six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 9:00 am on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a funeral mass in celebration of Michael’s life at 10:00 am in Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Calling hours for family and friends will be held from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Friday, May 20, 2016 at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
