Michael Robert Canestrano's Obituary
Michael R. Canestrano, formerly of Syracuse, NY passed away Friday, March 9, 2018, at the age of 96 in Richmond, VA. He was born in Syracuse, NY on August 19, 1921 to the late Anthony and Elizabeth Canestrano. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of over 50 years, Florence L. Canestrano. He is survived by his daughter, Marcia Canestrano (Los Angeles, CA); son, Mark Canestrano and his wife Ellen (Richmond, VA); son, Carl Canestrano (Tampa, FL); grandchildren, Carolina, Drew, and Sam; brother, Michael L. Canestrano (Syracuse, NY) and numerous nieces and nephews.
After graduating from North High School, Michael was drafted and served in the Army Air Corps. During WWII, he spent two years in the Philippines and New Guinea as part of the weather service. Upon returning home, he attended Syracuse University where he earned a Law degree. A member of the New York State Bar for over 50 years, he specialized in family law and was guardian ad litem for over 50 children at the time of his retirement. He also spent many years as a board member for Fairmount Community Library. His passions included golf, traveling and the arts.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9am, Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse, NY, 13219. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum.
