Michael A. Cerio's Obituary
Michael A. Cerio, 92, of Liverpool, NY, passed away under Hospice Care at Loretto Fahey on June 15, 2017. He was born in Syracuse on March 14, 1925. Michael was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was a graduate of North High School, Class of 1943, and a WWII veteran who served in the US Army in North Africa and Italy under the command of General Mark Clark. After returning from combat in December 1945, Mike built houses with his twin brother Pat, before going back to school under the GI Bill of Rights, training to become a plumber. He earned his Apprenticeship, Journeymen and Master Plumber’s license. Mike was the owner and operator of Frain-Cerio Plumbing Company and served in various official positions within the Onondaga County Plumbing Association including President in 1969. He was a member of the Blind Veterans Association and American Legion. Mike served as a Eucharist Minister at Our Lady of Pompei Church under Msgr. Paul Brigandi. He was an avid gardener who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Michael was predeceased by his parents, Nicola and Annamaria Cerio; his sister, Gilda Foscolo, and his twin brother, Pasquale Cerio.
Surviving are his wife, Ingeborg (Plonske) Cerio with whom he shared 64 years of wedded bliss; a son, Thomas E. Cerio of Liverpool, NY; one daughter, Rev. Cynthia Mapstone (Mark) of Cazenovia, NY; three granddaughters, Lauren, Morgan and Taylor Mapstone; one sister, Dorothy DeMari, several nieces and nephews, and two sisters-in-law.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 from 4-7 pm at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY. Funeral services will be held at 9 am on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a mass of Christian Burial in celebration of Michael’s life at 10 am in Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church, 301 Ash St., Syracuse. Private burial will take place in Assumption Cemetery at a later date.
