Michael J. Del Vecchio Sr.'s Obituary
Michael J. Del Vecchio, Sr., 87, of Syracuse passed away on Tuesday at St. Joseph's Hospital. Born in Syracuse, he served with the US Navy during WWII. Michael was employed with Joe Charles Sports Shop for 20 years and then worked for the US Post Office for 24 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the VFW Stanley Pennock Post and the Eastwood American Legion Post 1283. Michael was a former coach of the Lyncourt Little League and CYO. He was a former member of the Lyncourt Seniors and a member of the Lyncourt Volunteer Fire Dept for 47 years. Michael was an avid fan of the N.Y. Yankees. He was predeceased by his brothers, Nicholas, Joseph and Edward Del Vecchio; sisters, Mary Del Vecchio and Concetta Spuches. Michael is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Lucy (DeYulio) Del Vecchio; sons, Michael J. Del Vecchio, Jr., of Lyncourt and John A. (Nancy) Del Vecchio of Lakeland; grandson, Michael A. (Ashley) Del Vecchio; step-granddaughter, Jessica Barnes; great-grandson, Anthony Michael Del Vecchio; brother, Julian Del Vecchio of Kirkville and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday at 10:30 AM in the THOMAS J. PIRRO FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) N. Syracuse, NY and 11:30 AM in Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 7 PM.
