Michael A. Gafrancesco's Obituary
With heavy hearts and profound love, we announce the passing of Michael A. Gafrancesco, our beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, who left us surrounded by love on July 18, 2026.
Born in Syracuse, NY, in 1949, he was known affectionately to those who loved him as "Munk," "Gaffe," "G-Man," "Mr. G," Big Mike" "Inspector," and "Daddio." He lived a life defined by warmth, patriotism, and an unmistakable, larger-than-life presence. Anyone who stepped into his company immediately felt his kindness and the reassuring comfort of his huge heart.
Michael was a fiercely proud and patriotic man; he dedicated his life to serving his country as a Federal Officer for the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) for an astounding 51 years. His unwavering dedication, integrity, and strong work ethic earned him deep respect throughout his long and distinguished career.
Born to the late Michele Antonio Gafrancesco and Anna Marie (Barone) Gafrancesco, he grew up in a cozy little house in Liverpool—a place that held a special piece of his heart. Later in life, he had the blessing of returning to that very same childhood home, coming full circle to live out his days where his story first began.
For the past four years, he was surrounded by the ultimate comfort of family, living with his son, daughter-in-law, and three of his grandchildren, who lovingly cared for him every single day.
Michael was a cherished family man; his family was his absolute greatest joy and proudest achievement.
His legacy lives on through his cherished children: James J. Hoblet (Chastity), Michael T. Gafrancesco (Moea), Anthony R. Gafrancesco and Patrik Gridley (Aimee). He was the endlessly proud grandfather to eight grandchildren, each of whom brought immense light to his life: Austin Hoblet, Ava Hoblet, Austin Sheely, Kaila Sheely, Sophia Gafrancesco, Michael Gafrancesco, Santino Gafrancesco, and Penelope Gridley. He is also survived by his loving siblings: Patricia C. Hammond (Richard), Thomas P. Gafrancesco and Charles R. Gafrancesco, along with many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may gather for calling hours on Friday, July 24, 2026 from 3:00 – 5:00 pm, immediately followed by a funeral service in celebration of Michael’s life at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) N. Syracuse, NY.
