Michael Phillip Locaputo 's Obituary
Michael Phillip Locaputo, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away on September 28, 2017 at the age of 88. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary (Froio), their children, Kathryn (Patrick) Williams, Marie (David) Oppedisano, Michael (Cindy) Locaputo, Steven and Lisa Locaputo; grandchildren, Lauren and Michael Williams, Michelle Oppedisano, Jenna, Elizabeth and Christopher Locaputo; several nieces, nephews, godchildren, relatives and friends.
Mike was a member of the North High School City Champs football team (1947) and SUNY Morrisville’s undefeated Aggies (1949). He worked at Carrier Corporation, then General Electric for 30 years, retiring in 1989. He graduated from the Management Manufacturing Studies Program, was Foreman of the Semi-Conductor Unit, then Supervisor of Solid State Applications Operations Wafer Processing Division. He was a member of the General Electric Foreman’s Association.
Mike sang in the choir of Our Lady of Pompei Church, was a member of the Pompeian Players and the Brigadiers Drum and Bugle Corps (competing for national honors from 1951 through 1956). He completed Officers Candidate School with the New York National Guard, transferred to the Army Reserve, 403d Civil Affairs in 1962, and graduated from the Command and General Staff War College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas in 1974. After 26 years of military service, Mike retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.
Mike was active in tennis, golf (SPD Golf Association) and was a Certified 700 Series bowler, scoring a 703 series in league play. He was an avid New York Yankees and Syracuse University football and basketball fan. Mike and Mary enjoyed many winters in Marco Island, Florida.
Mike has chosen to donate his body to Upstate Medical University. Calling hours will be held at 10:00 am, followed by a Mass of Remembrance at 11:00 am on 11/11/17 at St. Matthews Church.
