Michael Anthony Mancuso Sr.'s Obituary
Michael A.Mancuso, Sr., 89, of Camillus passed from this life on Saturday, September 10th at Crouse Hospital.
Mike was born and raised in Oswego, NY. He served gallantly in the US Army Air Corps. during WWII. He served as a ball turret gunner in a B-24 Liberator in the 58th Air Division, 392nd Bomber group, flying 40 flights out of Wending, England. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Distinguished Service Cross, Air Medal and the Oak Leaf Cluster. His military service was one of Mike’s proudest times and he loved telling his stories to anyone who would listen.
On returning home he worked for St. Regis Paper and Hoffman's in Oswego before beginning a career with Army Ordinance, and later as a Government Contract Inspector. He worked for the Defense Department (DECAS) until his retirement in 1977.
Mike also played drums in the Nick Sterio Band in Oswego for several years in the late forties and early fifties.
He is predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Margaret Mary (Dehm) Mancuso; parents, Ludovico and Jenny Mancuso of Sicily and Oswego; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph and Winnie Mancuso, James and Margaret Mancuso; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dora and Richard Schuler, Mary and Howard Kump.
He is survived by his son, Michael A. Mancuso and his wife Laura of Liverpool; daughter, Anne Marie Mancuso and her partner Kathy of Liverpool; his grandsons, Nicholas Scott Graham and Kevin Michael Graham; several nieces and nephews and their children.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 9 am in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME and a celebratory mass honoring Mike’s life will take place at 10 am in St. Patrick’s Church, 216 N. Lowell Ave, Syracuse. Burial will follow in Onondaga County Veterans Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) on Monday from 4 to 7 pm.
