Michael R. Ward's Obituary
On Wednesday, February 12, 2020, Michael R. Ward, formerly of Syracuse, NY, loving husband, father, son, brother and uncle, passed away at his home in Denver, CO, under the care of hospice at age 60. Mike was born on June 17, 1959, the oldest son of Richard and Frances Ward.
A 1977 graduate of Thomas J. Corcoran High School (Syracuse), he enjoyed basketball and soccer. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the State University of NY at Fredonia in 1981, and moved to Anchorage, AK, where he worked as a land appraiser for Black-Smith & Richards, the state of Alaska and the federal government.
Mike met Dianne Meckstroth in Anchorage. They married on September 20, 1987, and together raised two sons, Jacob and Lucas. He retired from the state of Alaska and moved to Denver in 2014, where he continued his work with the federal government. Mike had a passion for fishing and golf. He was known for his quick wit, infectious smile and compassionate spirit.
Mike is survived by his wife Dianne; his children, Jacob, Denver, CO, and Lucas, Seattle, WA; his parents, Richard and Frances Ward, Cicero, NY; his aunt, Beverly Wilber, Syracuse, NY; his siblings, Kathy (Mike) Young, Lowville, NY; Cindi (Jim) Hardison, San Diego, CA; Sammi (Dave) Chauvin, Baldwinsville, NY; Dave (Debbie) Ward, Mechanicsville, VA; Sue (Frank) Mirarche, Clay, NY; Bob (Sally) Ward, Syracuse, NY; and Laurie Ward, Frederick, MD; along with several cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He is predeceased by his grandparents, Alfred and Laura Ward and James and Frances Pascuzzi, all of Syracuse.
Private memorial services are planned for Syracuse, NY, and New Bremen, OH. Details are pending for a Celebration of Life service to be held in Syracuse this June.
