Montserrat (Lej Serrano) Fowler's Obituary
Montserrat (Lej Serrano) Fowler, 91, of Cicero, died peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at the home of her daughter, Montse DeSalvo. Montserrat was born July 22, 1933, in Barcelona, Spain to the late Joseph Lej and Carmen Serrano. She met the love of her life, Ronald Francis Fowler, Sr., when his naval ship was stationed in Barcelona. She came to Syracuse in 1961 and became a United States citizen. She was a devout Catholic and a faithful communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Cicero. She was employed by Muench-Kreuzer (Emkay) Candle Company, in Syracuse, for many years.
Montserrat loved to cook, bake, crochet and do other crafts. She was a very lucky lady, who enjoyed bingo and going to casinos. She was full of wisdom and had a deep empathy for all of God’s creatures. She was “Mom” or “Yaya” to many who were not biologically hers. No one ever left her home hungry. She cherished her family and her friends.
Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Ronald Francis Fowler, Sr., and her brother, José Louise Lej Serrano, and her mother-in-law, Mable Fowler.
Montserrat leaves behind a legacy of love and true faith. She is survived by son, Ronald (Jeanne) Fowler, Jr. and daughters, Montserrat (Patrick) DeSalvo, Susan Welch and Judy Fowler; 7 grandchildren, Anthony, Tara, Ariel, Jordan, Jacob, Patrick and Dani; sisters, Carmen Lej Pérez and Ana Maria Lej Pérez; sister-in-law, Kathy Fowler, and 12 nieces and nephews (between the U.S. and Spain.)
Special recognition is in order to her daughter, Montse DeSalvo and her grandson, Patrick DeSalvo, who gave Montserrat almost 5 years of loving care in their home.
Funeral services will take place at 8:30 A.M. on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a funeral Mass in celebration of Montserrat’s life at 9:30A.M. in Sacred Heart Church of Cicero 8229 Brewerton Rd., Cicero.
