Nell Marshall Brown's Obituary
Nell Marshall Brown passed away peacefully on May 9, 2017. Born on August 1, 1920, raised in Syracuse, NY, Nell was valedictorian of her junior high school class and a top business school graduate. Nell worked for Washington DC’s Department of Veterans Affairs during World War II. At Hines Veterans Hospital, Nell volunteered for the Blind Section and fed the elderly. She married and moved to Glen Ellyn, Illinois in the early 50’s. She joined Infant Welfare and formed a free clinic for needy families. Employed by the U.S. Department of Treasury, she was promoted and relocated to Washington, DC in 1983. In 1989, Nell was named as “Woman of the Year” by the Potomac Business and Professional Women for her achievements and extensive volunteer work. She retired from the government in 1996 as a Program Analyst. After living aboard, she returned to Arlington, VA and later relocated to Naples, FL.
She was predeceased by her parents, Minnie and Anthony Marshall; her husband, William Frederick Brown; her brother, Joseph Marshall, and her sister, Grace DeMartino.
Nell is survived by her daughters, Barbara Brown, Elise Wiegert (Terry), and Joanne Gorence (John); her grandchildren; her sister, Barbara Ferraro, and their families.
A Funeral Service in celebration of Nell’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, May 15, 2017 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY; followed by a committal service at St. Mary’s Cemetery Mausoleum, DeWitt, NY.
