Nicholas Anthony "Nick" Cannone's Obituary
Nicholas Anthony “Nick” Cannone, 98, of East Syracuse, passed away on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at St. Joseph’s Hospital. He was born in Syracuse to the late Victor and Elvira (Romagno) Cannone. Nick was an Army Veteran of WWII and was awarded various medals. He was employed as a Postal Clerk for 33 years with the United States Postal Service. Nick was also an usher at St. Matthew’s Church for over 20 years. Nick loved golfing, bocce ball, working in the yard and gardening, he was a coin and stamp collector, and he made his own wine. He loved to dance and was always the life of the party.
Along with his parents, Nick was predeceased by his wife of 69 years, Connie in 2017; 3 children, Elvera Kathleen, Victor, and Nicholas; and his siblings, Mary DiOrio, Jennie Loiacono, and Anna Lacona.
Nick is survived by his children, Vera (Ed) Wittkowski, Joanne (Joe) Landers, and Nick Cannone, Jr.; grandchildren, Kari (Oscar) Roberts-Sanchez, Keli Roberts, Rick (Katie) Roberts, Tricia, and Carli Wittkowski; great-grandchildren, Marcelo and Gabriella Sanchez, Kylie and Caden Roberts, Charley Roberts-Clemente; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 from 9:30 – 11:00 AM at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (Corner of Buckley Rd.) N. Syracuse, NY, followed by a funeral mass in celebration of Nick’s life at 12 pm at St. Matthew’s Church. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum.
Nick’s family would like to give a special thanks to his caregivers, Sherrell Grant, Slyvia Walak, and Joan Krist for their love and care over the years.
