Nicholas M. Capparelli Sr.'s Obituary
Nicholas Michael Capparelli, Sr., 86, of Syracuse, passed away at home after a long illness on Thursday with his family at his side. He was born in Syracuse and was a 1948 graduate of North High School and attended business classes at Syracuse University. He served as an Army Corporal for two years in the Korean War. Nick worked for the Continental Can Company, and the Grosso‘s Silver Star Market. Along with his wife Nancy he operated DuRock's Market for many years. They later opened other markets including, Park Street Market. He was affectionally known to his customers as “Big Daddy DuRock”…. Nick loved bowling, boxing, animals, and the art of telling a good joke. Above all he enjoyed spending time with his five grandchildren. Nick was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend to all who knew him. He was predeceased by his parents, Antonio and Josephine Capparelli, and his loving wife of 58 years, Nancy, who passed away in 2013. Nick is survived by his son, Nicholas (Janet) Capparelli, Jr.; three daughters, Joanne Capparelli, Dr. Cheryl (Andy Mager) Capparelli and Lisa Caldwell; “adopted” son David Seguin, five grandchildren, Cara and Nicholas Capparelli, Laura Ann and Pfc. Joseph Michael Capparelli and Eli Mager; a brother, Louis (Doris) Capparelli; two Sisters Adelaide Filippi and Louise Messina, many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and grand-pets. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday June 2 at 8:00am in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME and 9:00am in Blessed Sacrament Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum on Grant Boulevard. Family and friends may call at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, on Monday June 1 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.
