Nicholas Karpenko's Obituary
Nicholas Karpenko, 87, of Liverpool, passed away on Thursday at Iroquois Nursing Home. Born in Syracuse, he served with the US Army Air Corp during WWII. He was a member of the American Legion Mattydale Post and the Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign War. After the war, Nicholas played semi-pro football. He was an 80 year parishioner and served over 50 years as an usher with the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Church. Nicholas was employed with General Motors for 30 years in the Turnstedt Division, retiring in 1976. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Union Local 854. Nicholas is survived by his loving wife, Mary (Paprocki) Karpenko; his sister, Helen Mahalick of Fayetteville; his brother, Frank (Vera) Karpenko of Syracuse; also several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday at 9:00 AM in the Thomas J. Pirro Funeral Home and 10:00 AM in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the Thomas J. Pirro Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 to 5 PM. Contributions may be made to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Church, 259 E. Onondaga St., Syracuse, NY 13202.
